On Nov. 6, 2009, nearly 150 former employees of Berkeley Labs famed Bevatron gathered to bid a final adieu to the facility, before ongoing demolition deems it unrecognizable. The Bevatron holds a significant spot in scientific history, as the place of discovery that later earned four Nobel Prizes. Speakers included Chief Operating Officer and Bevatron veteran Jim Krupnick, Interim Lab Director Paul Alivisatos, former Lab Director Andy Sessler, and demolition director Joe Harkins. Guest of honor was Ed Lofgren, who helped design the Bevatron, first turned the machine on in 1954 and turned it off in 1993 when it was decommissioned.
