UK ITV advertisements (LWT region)- September 30th 1984 pt.1

I am gradually sorting through some of my ancient video tapes to log what is on them, and capturing some vintage clips whilst I do so.

Here is the lead-in advertisement break and channel promotions from London Weekend Television (/Thames)'s broadcast on Sunday 30th September 1984, of the Roger Moore James Bond 007 film 'Live And Let Die' (1973).

Adverts include:
* Shreddies / Shreddied Wheat free pop sticker promotion (very dated, with Boy George, Michael Jackson, etc.)
* Halifax Building Society
* Sun Pat Peanut Butter

...followed by an LWT trailer for the forthcoming run of 'Airwolf' (which began showing a couple of weeks later).

...And an animated ident for LWT (in the days when channels had some character to them, and weren't overblown with computer graphics). I always liked Mr. T playing the piano and the rest of The A-Team bursting out!

On the peanut butter advert did I see someone put peanut butter on celery?, or am I just imagining things- Brilliant ads, Im 25 so this is an education..........lol- thankyou

I just looked - I think they did! It was like, "let's show as many uses for Peanut Butter as possible!". And on the Shreddies pop stickers advert... I just love how they hype it up, like one tiny sticky disk will bring so much joy!!! =)

PB on celery is common in the us. If you put raisins on top it is called "ants on a log."

Ya'll in England have such cool commercials! The Shredded Wheat boxes here in the US didn't contain buttons w/stars' pictures on them. I would have LOVED to have had the WHAM! button when I was a kid!

There was a time when I was gullible enough to fall for most TV adverts, including those for peanut butter. I think that when I discovered said product was the edible equivalent of Polyfilla, I was from then on not so easily influenced by commercials!
