This song was written in 1939 by Paul Misraki. Misraki (born 100 years ago, died 10 years ago), was a Jew born in Turkey. In the 1930s, he was in the Collégiens of Ray Ventura. He is for example the author of "Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour être heureux". Misraki fled France during the World War II German occupation, to South Amerci with Ray Ventura.
For this song, he was inspired of "Sombreros et mantilles". The new words refer to the Spanish current events. At this time, the Spanish civil war (July 1936 - April 1939) approached its end. Firstable, we can see an extract of the Journal Gaumont of July 1937, summarizing one war year in Spain.

Papidou.

  • French newsreels of the spanish civil war are seldom included in present TV documentaries dedicated to those terrible times. Also , many of the stills are first timers for me.México was one of the few countries that backed the republicans an took a great number of refugees at the end of the war.T

    he music is great.
