Deepa (Saroja) learned this dance at the Osho Meditation Resort (aka the Osho Ashram or Osho Commune) in Pune, India. She now lives in America, instructs yoga, is a manager at at the University of West Georgia library, and cooks endlessly for her all of her American friends who are deprived of yummy, healthy, home-cooking.

@mahirathakre Islam swept into India & caged the Indian soul. The Indians who converted to Islam obviously bought into the repressions the most, yet even those who stayed Hindu began to shift their ways. It is ridiculous when Hindu Fundamentalists preach the practices of Islamic culture. When the Hindu Fundamentalist is against a woman dancing, smiling, letting her hair down, he has lost his way. He is no longer Hindu, he has become Islamic in morality. Hinduism says "yes" to ALL of life!

I leave your comments, mahirathakre, so that the world can see how narrow your thoughts are. A happy, dancing woman is "cheap." Typical attitude of Hyderabad, a city in India with a huge Muslim population.
She is a Hindu girl. And, if you look at ancient relics of Hindu culture, you'll see the reverence for joy, ecstasy, and feminine beauty. Before Islam swept into India and repression of the feminine became instituted, there was a beautiful life-affirming culture in India.
