Trailer for the upcoming Historical Documentary on the little known Lake Michigan Carrier Qualification mission during WWII. US Navy pilot trainees took off from Glenview NAS and were required to make 8 landings on flat-topped converted passenger steamers off the shores of Chicago. The pitching seas of the lake proved too challenging for some of the neophytes in the cockpits. They came in too low, too hard or missed the deck altogether. As a result, more than 100 WWII fighter planes ended up on the bottom of Lake Michigan. GHOSTS IN THE LAKE chronicles the history of the Navy's bold plan to train pilots far away from enemy eyes, and follows the retrieval of a Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat and a Vought F4U-1 Corsair by A&T Recovery and the subsequent restoration by the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola. Digital Ranch Productions (creators of the series "Dogfight") will recreate the entire mission in state of the art CGI.
Executive Producers
John Davies/"Top Guns of '43," Harvey Moshman/"Lost & Found: Legacy of USS Lagarto," Robb Kirk/"Dogfight," & Taras Lyssenko/A&T Recovery
Stinking Navy still claims these aircraft and won't let anyone rebuild them.
