  • JJ's smooth and almost vibrato less tone almost suggests he was playing a french horn! His technique was never elaborated on until the arrival of Jimmy Cleveland and later Curtis Fuller. Most trombonists gave up imitating and switched to the valve trombone,to execute the seamless darting lines of Johnson. But there was only ONE
