Learn how to make a level foundation for your storage shed with this step by step video from the experts at Lowe's and Heartland.
Before you begin, find an area that's relatively level and is more than three feet away from fences or other structures where you would like to build your storage shed.
First, lay out the size of the shed with stakes and mason string. Make sure the layout is square. Mark each spot for the spacers on the mason string. The shed instructions will specify the 4x4 spacing. Place your block in line at the marks.
To begin leveling, start with the high blocks and move to the low blocks to minimize digging. Dig down to remove just the top soil, put gravel in the hole and place the block on top. Continue digging an placing blocks.
Lay the 4x4 on the blocks and check how level it is. To level the 4x4, add or remove gravel. Don't add gravel above the hole because it will shift. You can also add more blocks. For minor leveling, you can add shingles instead of blocks. Make sure each 4x4 is level, and that all the 4x4's are level with each other.
Set the floor frame on the 4x4's. Attach the frame to the 4x4's with one screw on one side at each 4x4. Make sure the frame is square. Secure the frame at each point of contact with the 4x4's.
When installing the floor panels for your shed, use the first panel to square the frame. Install the remaining floor panels and make any necessary adjustments to leveling. Now you have a square, level shed floor base on which to build your shed.

so how comes no concrete was used, and why? would it be stable with only gravel?

@n7c7m7p8 In this case the gravel is being used to help with the leveling. Concrete would not hold the block up level. They would sink into the concrete or the concrete would dry too quickly making the leveling process harder. Thank you for watching the Lowe’s YouTube Channel. –Lowe’s
