  • I wanna be a jockey but im gonna grow to like 6ft 3 or summat so i might not b able to race but if that the case i wont stop my dream i will just buy a racehorse and gallop it along the beach in all the gear lol i think to be a flat jockey u have to be like 4 ft tall but you can be taller as jump jockey :P dont give up on your dream it may come true

  • Good idea lol. But there isn't actual height limits for being a jockey as long as you're light enough.

  • Wow, I love the video! :) I want to be a jockey, too. I hope I get the chance to become one :D:D:D

  • Thanks! I hope you do too :D

  • Dont give up on ur dream :)

I also want to be a jockey, just to be on top of a thoroughbred racing on the track just seems like an amazing thing, i'd do anything to be able to get there. Good Luck, and nice vid :D

  • Thanks!

  • Jockey is my biggest dream ever..

    :')

  • @JayceBuckley1 5' 8'' and only 49 kgs? what are you apprenticed as....a jockeys whip?!!!

seriously though, look at the world's greatest jockey, lester piggott, he was 5' 8'' too but he had to starve himself to death all his racing life in order to ride. it's just that tall jockeys (with the exception of lester) look ungainly and a little unbalanced in the saddle. now a JUMP JOCKEY at 5' 8'' would be ideal! and you wouldn't have to starve yourself so much!

good look though jaycee. it's great.

  • i am now 62 years old.i'm 6ft tall and i weigh 280 pounds and i get short of breath after walking ten yards.

but i still want to be a jockey. are there any trainers out there who will give me a chance to fulfill my dream before it's too late? i am not ignorant about horses because i once fed a carrott to a horse in a field near my caravan.

or maybe someone will let me ride their pony around the yard? if it can jump a little that would be great.

i do 2 press-ups every morning so i'm fit too.

  • @Ilikefluffybunnies Nope. The average height for a flat racing jockey is 5 foot 4.5 inches. I want to be a jockey too. I am 4 foot 10.5 inches tall. I am 14 years old and a girl. I weight between 91-96 pounds. (It depends on the season.) My sister who is younger than me by 18 months is 5 foot 3. Oh, and yeah, jump jockeys can be pretty tall. Great Video by the way HorseRacer17. But there is no sound. :(

  • @sammyj602

Bones of steel. Head with nothing in it. A carrot. And not enough sense between you and the horse.

Don't get me wrong, I love horse racing but those guys are insane who do it : )

  • @HorseRacer17

It is very, very much based on height. The reason short jockey's can do it is because they are so naturally light. I'm 5'5 and weight 128. That is average for me. If I wanted to be a jockey, I could do it but I'd have to be willing to work out as much as possible, not eat anything, and never come off that diet so I don't gain weight. That's why shorter jockey's do it is because they can do it so much easier and still be healthy doing it...while hoping they don't get hurt.

  • i have always wanted to be a jockey but im to tall if i cant race then i will be a hot walker a hot walker is a person who practices with the race horses on the track but they dont race

  • @lucifirestarter im a apprentice jockey im 5 ft 8inches and 49kgs its just as long as your light

  • get a job on a race track learn from the ground up some trainers will train but take baby steps start as a hot walker then a groom and if you know how to ride in a flat saddle can become a excerice rider but want u to know the work is 7 days a week when i left the track in 1999 i was making 350 a week if you want contact me and i can tell you more

  • i worked with race horses for over 20 years and have seen jockeys that are tall short a little heavy or light if the horse has to carry 122 lbs i would rather have a rider that weight close to that then one that was 110 lbs if it has to carry 122lbs and they weight 110 they have to carry lead plus there tack
