Okay I know nothing about snow shoes. There purpose is to keep you from sinking all the way down in the snow as you walk? Please let know. Where I live we don't need them in the winter and we do get snow. Thanks

@DennyRec Right on the money. They allow one to "float" on top of the snow and not sink in. In many cases without snowshoes you end up "postholing." A portion of your leg (sometimes up to your knee or thigh) will sink down into the snow.
