A video of the demolition of the old Atlanta Hartsfield airport control tower. Built in 1961, the old terminal closed in September 1980 and the tower was demolished on July 1, 1984 to make way for the fourth runway. More airport history can be found here http://www.sunshineskies.net/atlanta.html

  • Sheesh..... a major landmark there one minute, GONE the next. Imagine if ya was deaf, were standin there lookin at that old building just admiring it, then ya had a snezzing fit or something, then to look back and see it 100% gone without seein or hearin anything... you'd think ya was just TRIPPIN or somethin!

  • Amazing historic video, and you incidentally caught the old Eastern Air Lines building which was used in the 1950s era quonset hut terminal. More amazing would be if they would have simply kept the old building and remodeled it into a retro hotel, instead of building a "new" hotel which now looks dated itself...

  • I mean "it" fell down kind of funny :)

  • Gone in 4 seconds. I fell down kind of funny though!

  • @robaveley You'd probably feel the vibration.

  • more like a terminal

  • did anybody hear the plane in the backround and then the building collapsed

  • this would be so cool played backwards!

  • can i please download it for my computer? if so, where si the youtube downloader?

  • Just like they practiced it! I remember living in Lexington, KY at the time and watching this on CNN.

I'm sure some of you were sad, but there weren't THAT many of you. I had heard that the place got to be a nightmare. And, most Southerners swore that you couldn't go anywhere--even Heaven or Hell--without going through ATL first!
