Once known as 'the worst place in Iraq' the Baghdad suburb of Dora has since made some remarkable changes for the better.

Newsnight's Mark Urban has returned to Dora 18 months since his last visit, to witness the changes for himself.

He isn't even an American or a soldier but dedicated much of his time and many of his friends to help us win over that corner of Baghdad. HaHa, someone was there for a few days out of the 15 months we were and they call it help. Bravo 2-12 didn't need the help in the first place, we had our shit on lock. From what I remember, 1-38 went in, made a mess, didn't find shit, then left. All of this happened over the course of 5 days. Over the course of 15 months I believe our company racked up more purple hearts and awards than the rest of our brigade.
