Basically, I spent a couple of days attempting to remake a version of the old Window's Starfield screensaver, as my Vista computer, sadly enough, lacks this classic screensaver. I then got carried away with the mouse events and added the ability to move the screen around by clicking and dragging the mouse, and speeding up/slowing down by using the mouse wheel. My dad, after watching what I had then, suggested I add color, so I did so. I then added a random variance possible with the default colors, so out of 256, each section of the color (red, green, and blue) can vary about 10. If they reach 256, then they cycle back around to 0, which is why some of them appeared darker. There were probably a few black or nearly black stars, as I had white (255,255,255) as a default color.

Oh, and I forgot, this was recorded full-screen on a 1280x800 monitor, so make sure to make the video full-screen. Any loss of quality at that point is youtube's fault, or the difference in monitor size (which shouldn't be too bad).

Oh, and here's the link to a download for it: https://sites.google.com/site/supermetroidoverhaul/side-things-i-ve-made/Star...
Thanks to jamesIheard for pointing out I didn't have one - sorry I couldn't post in the comments! Youtube was being silly and not letting me reply.

  • Do you have the source code for this available? I'd like to change some of the settings (number of stars, speed, etc)

  • @Amaroqdricaldari You don't want to confuse people, do you?

  • Why not do this? Set a thing to enhance color by 20% and set variables to never select black, and have thwe stars range in size and "port-starboard distance" where stars further away in any direction other than forward would move by more slowly. Also, a slow camera rotation would be nice, and if there were glow and motion blur effects and it was 32-Bit, you could make a Windows 7Windows Vista Screensaver. Just remove input to make it like all other screensavers out there.
