Blasting through the hills of San Bruno Mtn on my 1980 Yamaha XS650 Delilah. You might recognize this road as the last part of the car chase from Bullitt / Steve McQueen.
The XS650 isn't really an "imitation" Brit bike. It was everything they weren't, and beat them at their own game. Some 40+ years since their introduction, and they still look cool and are a kick in the pants to ride.
Your friend's was probably an '80 Special. I don't think they came in black in '79, but they definitely did in '80. I have a black '80 Special SG. Has gold badges, too.
Last of the great Yammie's,
Yamaha broke the mold when thery did this one.
smoothness, reliability.. good look's.
It has it all.

when I was a kid a guy from the neighborhood had one of these. It was Black w/gold trim and had the cast alloy rims. maybe 79' or 80'?
At the time I had no idea it was an imitation Brit Bike. i just thought it looked cool.
I get a kick out of seeing them re-born as Cafe' racers.
