  • Hi. I have a sloop rigged Snark Fireflower that needs to be stripped of the plastic and glassed. I plan on filling the topside with two part foam then forming a deck like that of a Laser and glassing over the foam. I also plan on setting it up for a small jib and maybe a bow sprit with asymmetrical spinnaker. I also plan on adding stays to the mast to beef it up for the added sail area. I'm just curious if you can tell me what weight and how many layers of cloth/mat were used.

  • @SailingAustin:

I used 6oz cloth. One layer. You can get more infor in the Yahoo group "snarksailboat". See my photos in 'American Flag Snark'. You can also search for my post under "mcentire".

  • Nice work! I have fond memories of learning to sail with Snarks at girl scout camp. We had a donated "Kool cigarette" snark (picture girl scouts sailing on a boat with a cigarette logo). Funny. My love of sailing started with a small styrofoam boat that could do double duty as a beer cooler for a large party... I live in Florida and would like to find one to car top and sail here.

Thanks for the comments. Good luck finding a Snark. Check Craig's List - that is where I found mine.

  • Could you give me instructions on how to restore it? Thanks.

  • @21randomname,

I posted the restoration info on the snarksailboat Yahoo! Group. It is a very active group with lots of people doing updates and restorations. look for my photos and descriptions under "American Flag Snark". If you have any trouble just give me a reply.

  • I bought this boat at a yardsale

  • The more I see people out with their dinghies and the more I get out on mine, the more l like them! That's start sailing out in that Snark without even a cushion under you :)

  • Great Job, and it looks like fun. Snark is all about good clean fun with no hassle what-so-ever. I have an ODay Daysailer 17, but I still use my Snark Mayflower for a quick sail. Happy Sailing!

  • i too am rebuilding a snark
