This is a video clip with pictures from the D-Day, June 6, 1944. The Background music is Iron Maiden - The Longest Day. The Normandy Landings were the first operations of the Allied invasion of Normandy, also known as Operation Neptune and Operation Overlord, during World War II. The landings commenced on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), beginning at 6:30 British Double Summer Time (H-Hour). Total allied casualties (killed, wounded, missing, or captured) are estimated at approximately 10,000. These comprised:
United States6,603, of which 1,465 fatal.
United Kingdom2,700.
Canada1,074, of which 359 fatal.

I was inspired by the lyrics of the song and of the history I read in school. Some might not like the idea of having Iron Maiden in the background of dramatic and horrible pictures, but for me it's the idea and the lyrics that counts.

PS. I made the original song a bit shorter.

  • @Stardweller1 Cont

and landing in either the surf or behind enemy lines, then we might not have lost so many men at Omaha on that day IMHO.

  • @quentil I would by no means call D-Day a failure, it was an essential part of what led to the defeat of Hitler and his "thousand year reich" and many brave men paid the ultimate price in the Normandy invasion. But the more I read about D-Day the more I think that if for instance our troops on Omaha Beach hadn't been weighted down with packs and the Nazi defences at Omaha had been hit with precision bombing prior to the troop landings instead of most of the bombs and ship guns missing them

  • My great grandfather was here to

  • my gandfather was here too

  • @quentil Whoa, hold on a second. Who exactly calls D-Day a failure? I ask only because this is the first I've ever heard that anyone did.

  • @PinoyFlash I must confess, however reluctantly so, that there is truth in what you're saying. However, that does not change the ethics of it; it merely demonstrates that not everyone is willing to follow the ethics. All we can do is resolve, individually, to be among those who do.

  • not 2 mention the canadian armored brigades killed germanys best tank ace the black barron who had more then 90 confermed kills and lead the final SS armored defence before the rhine river... and the canadian tanks wer ordered NOT to cross the river to attack the remaining fleeing germans... 2 days later pattons 3rd army crossed the rhine and got the credit for being the first into germany.... same thing happened in italy, america got all the credit when canada kicked ass 2.. fuck usa
