  • we had a rabbit with teeth like that once, we had to use pliers to clip them so he could eat. he'd growl at you, then you'd clip his teeth and he'd dive into the food dish. you should put him down because it's a genetic problem and if he's bred will most likely pass it on to his offspring.

  • @tylenoljohnson I did end up snipping the teeth with a dog nail trimmer shortly after this vid. It worked fine and was painless, but unfortunatly Corky did not make it and died a couple of weeks ago. I agree that he was not going to make the breeder catagory though.

  • winter upkeep with doubled water bottles a must ..keep one set inside and thawed to swap with those kept for breeders over winter. I reduce down to 2 breeding pairs and also mixed bred NZ's and Cal ..mom's too large squish young so chose mid size moms ..get a fishhoop net to catch escapes..little boggers being so nosey will walk right in to hoop lain flat on ground..rattle the feed container when you feed and they will come to the sound if they escape .

  • @wizardangel great tips, thank you

  • @wizardangel for my escapees, if I can't catch them by night I just set out my havaheart raccoon trap and they are usually caught in a couple hrs

  • Very resourceful....that's using your smart very well. Let's not forget the fertilizer they will leave to nourish also. lol

  • @TheCajuntransplant these bunnies are fertilizer machines!!

  • Aaarrrwww they look sooo .. . tasty!! :D

  • @wizardangel this is true, one of the best investments a breeder can have is a net on hand. last year we had one escape and it was impossible to corral it with plyboard and such, so about the time i went to the house for the .22 i ran across an old fishing net. worked wonders. also caught a wild one sitting under the truck with the same long handled net. it got away tho.

  • @outofworkbum that sounds like a good way to remedy the problem with the nail trimmers. mind you, it was like 25 years ago when we clipped our rabbits teeth so technology had not yet evolved to todays standards. but in our herd today if we have one with parrot teeth we'll just put it down to prevent suffering. it's almost time to start quelling the herd for winter, i'm thinking 10 does and 2 bucks. should be sufficient for next year, and should leave us with a few for the freezer in winter. :)
