The playing of a pre amp using the oldest style audio triods, the 01a DC filiment and plate voltage, rca in and out. Surpisingly clean but warm tube sound using tubes designed before the advent of electrical recording.

  • I see two tubes, excuse my amateur question but is that one tube per channel assuming your setup is stereo?

  • One tube is right and one is left, it is a device used to give a better quality sound to recordings. Still in the experimental stage.

  • Very nice and very clean sound. What's the power supply? Look like it has may taps.

  • The power supply is out of a large main frame computer from the 80s that I scrapped, that was a controle unit from a factory. I posted an updated version of this pre amp mounted and laid out better

  • Good day

Those were handmade back in the early

    1920's,...& perform like new.

I wonder how many of today's equip will do that 80yrs from now...

  • I always wondered about using the ancient 201a for a stereo amplifier. Very nicely done! I imagine that some crazy biasing would have to be done to use them in a modern amplifier design. I'm sure the specs per tube varies big time from tube to tube!

  • @darksound1973 do you have the 6 volts going in the filaments, one lead of the input grounded and the other to the grid. then the plate hooked to the primary of the output trans, and the other end of the trans to the 48 volts and the secondary to the speakers?

  • The tubes are the best!!!

  • how can you even rate his rig from the vid? no hate tho

  • the caps in the curcuit that u are not using would be coupling caps right?

  • cool video. i love those old tubes.

  • Wow! Great job! I never would have thought of using ancient tubes like that for a preamp. And what's even cooler is that you didn't use any resistors/caps in the circuit! Now all you should do is install it in a nice chassis. The sound is amazingly clean and warm.
