Intro to what was easily the best game of the series. Jordan hit a game-tying shot over Byron Scott, and the Bulls won in overtime, effectively finishing off a battered Lakers squad. Then, Magic Johnson retired after coming down with HIV, and the Lakers didn't recover until signing Shaquille O'Neal five years later.

  • Dude, you serious?

CBS had just as much of a pro-Celtics/Lakers, Magic/Bird spin as NBC did for Jordan.

  • Actually no, CBS showed a lot of its NBA games on tape delay and was MUCH fairer in coverage than corporate tools NBC and ABC.

  • Talk about a non-sequester...what the hell does showing games on tape delay have to do with coverage? If anything, it shows more unfairness, because it's making basketball secondary.

And I'm still not sure where your basis is for NBC displaying a bias, other than "I say it loud, therefore I'm right." My point is, if NBC had a bias, so did CBS.

And even if you want to make the corporate argument, there were many more potential sponsors in the 90s than the 80s. Blame the times, not NBC.

  • hey there,

if someone is reading it, and you have the nbc intro for game five on 1998 finals, PLEASE post it!

i would really appreciate it! thanks..

  • Don't have it, sorry.

  • I loved the NBA on NBC. I also loved the opening animation. Maybe it's because I helped the graphic artists with the rendering when it was put together. I remember watching as they wire framed the sequence, mixed in the video clips, and made it work with the music. All I did was network the systems together and made sure the rendering process worked. It took 2-days in 1991 to render the entire opening. The graphics folks did phenomenal work!!

  • I hope ABC loses the NBA....Its unwatchable.... I have seriously lost interest watching any NBA game on ESPN or ABC.......NBA on NBC was freaking amazing.

  • @ace11rothstein That is how the entertainment industry works.

  • @TheTFReview They can get ratings by letting the Kardashians play the 2nd quarter. That doesn't mean they have to sell out to do that.

  • @ace11rothstein Big market teams + Big market players = Big market ratings.

  • @ace11rothstein The reason for all this is simple: the bigger stars get more national airtime because

    a.) They're more recognizable, and

b.) Their teams are doing good.

  • Nobody set a scene like Bob Costas---except maybe Dick Enberg. NBA on NBC added to the experience in a way that ESPN/ABC just hasn't been able to match.

  • Heyyo, you want Magic, Jordan and Bird on Showtime NBA on NBC The Game? then pick them up on CHAMPTV. I have their stats that me and my cousin(dahitman23)made in the description section on my channel. Please rate them and let me know what you think about them, peace and enjoy.

  • Yep... who would you rather have as your play by play man - Marv Albert or Mike Breen, LOL. NBA on TNT is way better because of the presentation, it's too bad they can't get the Finals.

  • Oh, okay. Thanks!

  • I don't know, I am not a graphics artist. I was just the programmer who helped them get the job done. Today, computes are powerful enough that the type of work we did to have the animation rendered in 1991 is not necessary.
