  • And yes, jazz an music in general is no more about colour of the skin, it is just about playing good or bad music. People that think it still is are just ignorant.

  • Uri sounds really good...rhythm section too...

  • The classical way to present Jazz has been in the remodelling of well known tunes and arrangements. The listener is then transported from conventional exposition to a new and exciting media, catching glimpses,if you will, of the original song. If Jazz is to succeed it must re-invent this basic principal. In short do not revert to musical work-outs for the sake of the solo instrument.

  • @hehateyou1 jazz musicians now make much less now than ever before...

I'm not sure if you're trolling or simply brainless, but I'm struggling to take your response seriously. How you can say there's no tradition present is beyond me. Dave Douglas's playing alone is rife with Freddie Hubbard licks, he even quotes Solar at one point. And if you think jazz is a haven for money grubbing opportunists, you are again quite mistaken. Even the most prominent artists (Dave Douglas, Dave Holland) don't make much more than your average upper middle-classmen.

    From first hand experience?...

I'm obviously talkin to an afficanado on Jazz so I realize my comments fall upon deaf ears...

I will not tout my experiences on youtube but i will comment that Jazz is dead when we are subjected to this interpretation of it... It shows no traditional or non-traditional aspects of the music, it's a farce and it's pretentious in it's attempt to parlay a sense of soul, rhythm or blues. The Jazz community is all about the dollar rather than music!!!

  • @hehateyou1 To beegin with, the jazz community isn't really prone to "hype"; if something isn't worth while people generally ignore it. Second, I'm not sure if you're implying some lack of musicianship in his playing, but if you are, I can tell you from 1st hand experience that he's incredibly well founded in every aspect of the art. Last, there are plenty of quite worthy musicians who would and have lent their credence to him, notably the ones playing with him.

  • @TheDionysiac

What is so difficult to understand about that statement?

Dave Douglas stole alot of attention from worthier MUSICIANS!!!

the great white hype he was for some time
