Chapter 18 - My Beautiful Rescue - A Jonas Brothers Story

(Brooke's Point Of View)

"You have to tell us every detail about your little date with Nick," Lindsey exclaimed. The three us had met up at a local restaurant where Kayla would spill all the details to us.

"Guys, it wasn't necessarily a date... we just hung out," Kayla responded, taking a sip of her drink.

"So... what did you talk about?" I asked, anxious to hear what went on between her and Nick.

"Well," she began. "It started off kind of awkward. Nick was just staring at me and smiling a little. I was so nervous..."

"That's so cute!" Lindsey interrupted, laughing.

Kayla cleared her throat. "Anyway... so then he made me tell him all about myself. It was really random and I had no clue what to say so he went first. But he said all this stuff that I already knew."

"Then what?" I questioned, impatiently. Kayla looked up at me hesitantly and shrugged.

"Then... we got our food and ate. Nick drank like, three glasses of Diet Coke. We talked a little more about the rest of the tour and how he misses New Jersey. And then..." She stopped to think. "I don't know. That was pretty much it."

"That's it?!" Lindsey practically shouted. "Did he at least hug you goodbye or something?"

"Yeah, we hugged. It was... amazing," Kayla said, smiling. Still, she seemed distant. Like she was hiding something.

Lindsey once again almost lost control in a public place, and almost knocked over her drink. "Aww! I'm so happy for you! So... hear anything about Joe for me?"

"Not really, nothing new..."

"OH YEAH!" I cut in, excitedly. "Get any juicy info about Kevin?" Kayla looked from me to Lindsey, her eyes wide.

She was about to speak when Lindsey started to talk. "Hey, she was about to tell me about Joe, wait your turn..."

I crossed my arms and sat back in my seat. Something was up with Kayla. I watched as she told Lindsey about Joe. She promised she would get some information for me about Kevin. So why did she look so hesitant and nervous to tell me?

"Kayla... what did you find out about Kevin?" I asked, sitting back up.
She stopped mid-sentence in her conversation with Lindsey and turned towards me. "Umm..."

"What is it?" I nearly whispered, gulping.

"I'm sorry..." she began, looking at me sympathetically. "Kevin has a girlfriend."

I felt my stomach drop and couldn't even stand to look at the food that was in front of me anymore. Why? Why did I have to feel this way about this guy that I hardly even knew? That hardly even knew me? We barely talked and when we did it was casual. And now I knew why. Kevin had a girlfriend.

Lindsey was just as shocked as me. "Are you okay?" she asked, Kayla trying to comfort me as well.

"It's just not fair," I said, my voice cracking. "I've always liked him. You both have always liked Joe and Nick. And of course you end up getting their attention and everything... talking to them on the phone, hanging out with them. It just isn't fair."

Kayla sighed. "I'm really sorry..."

"Next time you see Kevin, I'm doing your hair and everything. He will be drooling over you. I promise," Lindsey said, jokingly yet still serious.

I let out a small laugh. "Thanks guys."

"Really, don't worry about it though. It's not like they're engaged or anything," Kayla commented.

"Hopefully not..." I stated, taking a deep breath.

Suddenly, Lindsey's phone started to ring as she dug through her purse to find it. She fished it out and looked at it confused. "Some random number?"

"Pick it up," Kayla said.

"Hello?" Lindsey spoke into the phone. The puzzled look on her face turned into a huge smile. "Joe? How did you get my number?"

Kayla and I just looked at each other in awe. "Um... no, we're not doing anything tomorrow, why?" Lindsey looked up at us and gave a thumbs up sign. "Yeah, we'd love to! What time?" She paused as Joe talked on the other end of the phone. "Yeah, that sounds great... So, see you tomorrow?" she said grinning. "Okay, bye Joe."

"What just happened?" I asked, as Lindsey closed her phone and put it back into her bag.

She looked back up at Kayla and I, beaming. "We basically, kind of just scheduled a triple date for tomorrow!"

Okay sorry it took so long to get out this chapter, I started working last week as a camp counselor and it's really tiring, but I'll try to have the next one out sooner, and I promise there will be lots more Jonas in it. Thanks so much for all of your comments & subscriptions!!

just to clarify it's not REALLY like a triple date, that's just what Lindsey said that it "basically, kind of" is one, but not really? i don't know. it will make more sense in the next chapter, I promise. I should've worded that differently but oh well you will seee what happens! :]
