Ever wonder how to make the onigiri (triangular riceballs) you see in your favorite anime or manga? This video will guide you through an easy, no mess process for making them! No fancy molds or getting your hands wet/dirty! I promise! :) This isn't the traditional way of making onigiri, but I like it because the bowl helps you get nice evenly-sized riceballs, while the plastic wrap keeps your hands clean. ^^

Onigiri make for great snacks or lunches. The fillings I've shown are some of the most popular, but the possibilities are literally endless. Channel your inner Tohru (from Fruits Basket) or Brock (from Pokemon) and make some tasty onigiri for your next bento lunch or journey to the next city. ;P

  • Does the rice have to be hot for this to work or will it work just as well with warm/cooling rice? (Never made this before but I plan to in the near future and don't think I can work fast enough for it stay hot while I make all of them >.<)

  • @AlanaBlenkhorn Hi AlanaBlenkhorn! It works best when the rice is still hot. I've noticed that as I make them and the rice starts cooling, it doesn't stick together as well. It'll still work with warm rice though. Just make sure to compact it more as you make them. Good luck! :)

  • i love this method. theyre so clean! does the nori get very soggy after?

  • @KittyDreadful Thank you! :D The nori does lose its crispness unfortunately. Sometimes when I pack them for my friends, I'll wrap the "naked" riceball in plastic wrap and keep the nori separate so that they can wrap them right before eating. You can give that a try if you want crisp nori with your onigiri. :)

  • I like your method! It looks so much easier to make!

  • @nenelolz Thank you! ^^

  • @Taimuffin Thanks! And yes, that is the Fruits Basket theme! I thought it'd be appropriate for an onigiri video. ;P

  • Great job! Is that the theme for Fruits Basket I hear? :D
