I'm a Californian and have been lane splitting for over 20 years. I love it. The other 49 states law makers are idiots. If a person were to open a door on a motorcyclist, it would be the car drivers fault. My friend found out the hard way. Lane splitting is legal in California. East coast drivers are idiots or uninformed on courteous driving rules. I've never seen so many motorcyclists die. Jay Leno and Johnny Carson are correct about how east coast are mentally slower in driving skills.

i think new york drivers are really good ones. New Yorkers dont stop they keep the traffic flowing and find ways of getting around complicated heavy traffic areas.

I wish I had a helmet cam so I could show you how lane splitting is in Bangkok. It is pretty fun. I'll see about getting a camera mounted some how and I'll post a video response for you.

racerX7319 your the idiot. New yorkers think they are the best in the world but they all move to California and elsewhere and then they claim to love New York but choose to live in any state other than NY

mwkim20 you are an idiot. New York as the best drivers in the states. PERIOD. end of story.
Per Capita they have the lest amount of auto accidents per year.
CALIFORNIA DRIVERS SUCK!!!

Most of the riders I know do it safely. However most of the riders I see on the freeway try to do it at 75mph. So when they complain about evil cars I really don't care...

Well, just don't lump me inwith "most of the riders [you] see on the freeway" and I'm happy. We're not all alike.

what would happen if you got caught for doing this in CA, in pittsburgh you would be crusified for lane spliting
bblauter 4 years ago
It's legal in CA, as long as you are doing it in a "safe and prudent manner." That is, lane splitting isn't specifically illegal, so it's allowed if you are doing it safely and reasonably. You don't have to worry about being "caught."

I'm kinda scared for you. Always afraid of someone not looking and pulling out in front of you.
Why aren't more people riding bikes? You got so beautiful weather in cAlifornia.
What kind of bike is that?

It's a Honda ST1100. I worry about people pulling in front of me too, but that happens more when I'm NOT splitting lanes than when I am.
