The passengers of a US passenger plane are crediting their pilot for landing the plane safely in a New York river, in what could otherwise have been a tragedy over a heavily populated area. Officials believe birds flew into the engines of the US Airways jet, which was flying from New York to North Carolina. VOA's Carolyn Presutti has the story.

  • i am never going to planes any more because im a bird lover and i say they all die

  • @ERAUPRCWA Of course the copilot helped, but in the end the PILOT is responsible for whatever happened, so if the landing had failed, everyone would have said it's the pilot's fault, not mentioning the copilot.

  • Pilots do not simulate water ditchings... simulators aren't accurate enough because they don't have the variety of data to model such a rare situation.
