The way Londoners say the Sensei's name always puts a smile on my face. This is Denis Waterman(the minder) If I am not mistaken?!

What type of jow or medicine does he use for his hands?

..This is a really good insight into the life of Sensai Higaonna. I stopped training in Goju Ryu in 1980 and didn't train in this style for 30-years, i very much regret this...Hopefully i will get to Black belt one day..

It is hard to try to practice everyday! I am thirty years old and on top of marriage, work, and now a son of my own it is almost impossible to find time! ALMOST!! That means I find time to practice at work and in between time before my wife gets home with our son! I have maintain training to four times a week for at least two hours a day. Even then I still have my house to manage and a family to spend time with and then work and some sleep! But like my Okinawan Sensei said "Karate everyday!"

This is inspirational. I try to practice kata and exercise every day between classes but it is difficult. It is something to strive to. on another note, I would not like to see what Sensei Higaonna would do to someone in a real fight situation. All these MMA types would be decimated by this guy in his prime. Then again, because he follows the true edicts of Karate, he would never show off or take a fight unless for defence purposes.

@RockenWesley there are very few people in the world these days that practice karate the way it was meant to be practiced, its sad that its become a sport to most people, when in actual fact its an art for mastery of mind and body.

@RockenWesley ... Americans would never indulge or work at anything that does not give them some sort of reward or status . It is not enough for most Americans to " do something , just to do it " . They need to be praised . They need to be rewarded . They need their progress to be measured . And above all else , they need others to be aware of this progress . Competition is not an aspect of traditional Karate Do culture but competition is the essence of American culture .

The dojo is where you learn, away from the dojo is where you train! Most Karate students in the US leave their Karate at the dojo when they leave. If you dont constantly train you will never have effective Karate!!!!

I love Okinawan kobudo do souther chinese kung fu and the conditioning has the same goal so i incorparate alot of Hojo undo

proper conditioning and hard work is how the herd gets thinned. someone who truly want to learn will stick it out. someoone who dont, will give up
This is why any martial art is a way of life. Conditioning of the mind and body must be done individually at a designated time on one's own. The Dojo is just a place where we all interact with what we've learned. The true martial artist does not concern himself with belts but mastery of each stage. I agree with you.

Karate Do is an art form that we all need to help preserve reguardless of your sub-style. It dose not matter if you Kenpo,Kyokushin,or Shotokan, corruption of Karate Do in the West is something we must all correct. I strongly believe that we should do away with the point sparring system and make Karate Do a restricted label based on a list of requirements. 90% of the "Karate" dojos in the U.S. have at least 85% Olympic TKD in their corriculm. That's just how extensive the damage is.
