No statistics, but I do have proof of people born before the 80's that have wider vocabularies. I believe everything today is dumbed down for kids.

@Program61Lamza Do you have statistics to verify that vocabularies today are any smaller than fifty years ago? The literacy rate has risen in most of the world over the past century, and I would guess that most people today probably have a wider vocabulary due to (slightly) improved education, as well as the necessity of knowing the jargon for every field a person wants to be an expert in (yes, this includes texting and video games).

People in the past have a wider vocabulary than people today cause they don't play video games all day, and they actually meet one another to communicate face to face instead of texting (which also hurts your ability to spell if used incorrectly).
