Students in my spoken language class were presenting on independent learning to their partners. In their 1-2 minute presentations, they purposefully included several signposts and linking words to improve coherence and organization.
The audience was listening for signposts and writing them down. Furthermore, and this is where mobile technology comes into play, the partner used the presenter's mobile phone to record the presentation, as a learning record. In fact, perhaps, the audience had the toughest job as they had to listen for specific words and phrases while filming!
The idea of students using their mobile phones in the classroom is gaining steam in my teaching and learning. In this instance, the phones are video recorders which conveniently capture learning records - the students' series of presentations during the class - possibly for their eportfolios. Of course, whether students actually review their own presentations and learn from them, or whether they simply delete them an hour later is entirely up to them.
