This is basically raw video of the eye of hurricane Ike in Galveston, Texas in September, 2008. There is not a lot to see since it is like 2:30 am local time but there are a few shots of the wind gauge showing it barely spinning, etc. You can also see the palm trees nice and still. Notice too the roar of the Gulf of Mexico later in the clip. We were right by the sea wall at the San Luis Resort and the Gulf was just about to breech the wall as the eye passed over. Once in a while a surge of water would spill over the wall and in to the parking lot. You can see the entire hurricane Ike experience, plus much more, on our DVD - "Tracking the Hurricanes: 2008" which can be purchased from our store on hurricanetrack.com.

  • Thank you. We appreciate that. We know it is tough for the people that these things impact but we do try to show the respect for not only them but also the power of Nature.

  • Wow- that is a great compliment. I could not do this work without the support of Jesse, Mike and my other close colleagues who are not out there with me in the elements. It truly is a team effort.

  • I used to live in Mission Bend, right at the Harris/Ft. Bend county line. This is very sad, I had friends that live down at Clear Lake that they never found. Never underestimate the power of Mother Nature!
