Rachel Confronts Felicia About Her Drinking

When Felicia's attempts to get Ryan to stick around TOPS to discuss his dating life fail because Ryan has to get back to work, Rachel again asks to speak Felicia, which leads to a confrontation about Felicia's drinking. Felicia thinks that of all her friends, Rachel would have been the one who understood more than anyone, but instead, Felicia says, Rachel understands the least of all of Felicia's friends. Rachel replies maybe that's because the only one who seems to see what's happening to Felicia, and Rachel calls Felicia on the lie about the interview. Felicia says she told a little fib to spare Jenna's feelings because she wasn't in the mood for a party, and that Rachel would do the same to spare her childrens' feelings. Rachel says this isn't about a party, and she's afraid Felicia is drinking too much. Rachel knows firsthand what Felicia is going through: the pain, the emptiness, how desperate you get to do anything you can to stop it. But drinking isn't going to do it; it's just going to get out of hand. Rachel cares about Felicia and what happens to her and doesn't want to see her slide downhill. Felicia accuses Rachel of caring more about profit margins and her new toy, KBAY, and the bottom line. Rachel disagrees. Felicia insists that she's the last person in the world who would have a drinking problem, and points out that she barely drank any champagne with Cass. Rachel says she's sorry, but Felicia says no, she's the one who's sorry that she's not on top of things the way Rachel would like, and she's sorry that Rachel isn't being compassionate about Felicia having her heart ripped out. Rachel insists that she is because she lost her own husband, and that's when Felicia delivers a final stinging remark: Mac died, but Luke was murdered, so when it comes to the way you lose the love of your life, Felicia tells Rachel, there is no comparison between Felicia and Rachel. Felicia then leaves Rachel sitting alone at the table. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
