It was at this time in 1992 when the 4000 underwent one of the biggest changes in the system's history: The graphical Travel Cities forecast debuted, but even more importantly, the Local Radar debuted. This new radar showed the motion of the precip over the course of a 90 minute time span.

With these two big overhauls, The 3:00 min J Flavor, both 2:00 Flavors (L [shown here] and M), and the 1:30 min K Flavor underwent complete screen line-up changes. The L and the M's screen changes were the most drastic.

With part 1 and 2 of Tyler's emulation, you can see how much the L Flavor changed overnight.

A few other things are visible here that only occurred for a short time. The Aug '92 - Mar '93 song playlist was the first in which Dan Chandler's narration states that the 36 hour forecast was from the National Weather Service. Although it had always been from the NWS, its source was never much advertised prior to this. Why this is note worthy is because in late 1992, the 4000's programmers condensed the text "Local Forecast" in the header bar to make room for the NOAA logo, months before it would actually appear. Since 2002 when TWC dropped the NWS Zone Forecasts in place of their own, the 36 hour segment's header bar once again looks exactly as it did in mid to late 1992.

Also, the first version of the graphical TCF had a slightly different line-up versus the one that came to be later on. This list ran without Phoenix and in it's place was Hartford. Also, New York was listed as NY City for a brief period of time.

Notice how you can hear the narration for the 3000 throughout a good portion of this audio. This was also very common place at the time.

  • The NOAA Logo is missing on the 36 Hour Forecast.

  • Please read the description. It explains this.

  • New York was listed as "NY City?" Wow. I'll have to review my footage. I don't recall that (but will take your word for it).

  • Layne posted a video response taken from Nov 21, '92. You can see NY City in the TCF. :-)

  • This is effing awesome Charles! Thanks so much!! ;)

  • I liked the playlist that was on at that particular time, with "Weekend In Monaco" by the Rippingtons being my favorite song.

  • I remember seeing that on regional maps, but not on the TCF too.

  • Thanks for the info, Chazz.

  • Weird. How did I miss that?

  • I also noticed Hartd was missing from our WeatherStar 4000 Emulator's Travel Forecast. Why is it that way?
