This shallow section of the Geronimo Creek would have been a much better location for boring under the creek with a 105-feet long, 30-inch diameter steel casing pipe designed to hold a PVC sewer pipe. Instead, a 6- to 8-feet deep section of the creek 45 feet east was selected. The boring was a total failure, and the pipe that was to be bored 5 feet under the creek is now lying on the bottom of the creek. Part of the pipe has been intentionally covered with a large amount of gravel. Due to water rushing through the pipe after it pierced through the creek, it was not possible to fully weld the unions between pipe sections. It is inexplicable why the engineering plan specified boring under the creek where the depth is 6- to 8-feet deep instead of under the shallow section shown here. Penetrating the creek resulted in considerable pollution when muddy water had to be pumped from the boring trench by 3 large pumps. Work on the project has been halted since about November 28, 2011. The Seguin City Council will discuss a possible lawsuit against the contractor at a meeting on December 6, 2011. It remains to be seen who will remove the pipe and the large volume of gravel from the creek while also restoring the considerable damage caused by excavations on both sides.
