Attempt to isolate abdominal muscles to flex & flow like rolling waves. Demo by menopausal woman, multiparous with limited basic understanding in unraveling the mystery. Just picking up the practice again now since weekend workshop with Ana Forrest & Heather Tiddens 5+ years ago at Kripalu.
Have you tried doing this standing up? I've been able to do this since I was a kid so I'm not sure how hard it is for someone who is learning. But how I do it standing up is putting my hands on my head and then the same thing you would do as if you are bent over :D

@zedus456 ...i am just a beginner at controlling the belly, fun to play with but takes incredible dedication & practice to be great like a belly dancer, admire their skills not mine, but thanks so much just the same!

@NelsonYogaInversions That's true, but then again sometimes it can all boil down to how much time it takes to learn and how much you practice at it.

Yes, think belly dancers WOULD benefit greatly from practicing nauli-- it's all about abs/stomach control, waves & rolling. I'm just a novice & took me forever to get any success. Feel the churning action as breath is held out & hands on thighs help to initiate the contractions. Best to try on empty stomach too.
May be like learning to wiggle ears, some people catch on quick & others like me are slow to grasp concept.

@NelsonYogaInversions Do you think that belly dancers could benefit from practicing cleansing techniques such as this?

@rolandsc
Ana's approach is powerful, she is big advocate for emotional healing through yoga & has overcome much trauma including bulimia & drug addiction from her early years.

mark- advanced workshop was "gravity surfing" hand balances, press handstand, inversions & seamless transitions. Much emphasis abdominal core strengthening (twisted root and supine frog crunches) and uddiyana bandha action. Nauli part was brief, duo stomach rolling demo impressive, nice intro-we all attempted in front of giant mirrors for few minutes in a HOT room full of sweaty people- get the picture? I was a newbie struggling with heat & modesty-did not like at the time.
