Memorial Day, May 26, 2008, Baltimore, MD. On top of Federal Hill, a ceremony of planting Forget-Me-Nots flowers was done to remember America's heroic war dead. Speaking at the event was Ms. Rose Forrest, an Iraq War veteran, former U.S. Army Captain, National Guard. She served a 12 month tour of duty in Iraq. In her comments, she was critical of some members of the U.S. Congress for their indifference to the needs of the returning veterans and of U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for his remark about the U.S. staying in Iraq "for one thousand years." Matthew Weinstein of Progressive Maryland introduced Ms. Forrest and Rabbi Geoff Basik gave the invocation for the ceremony. For background, please see:
http://progressivemaryland.org/page.php?id=268. The ceremony was performed in the shadow of the American flag that flies at the crest of Federal Hill, overlooking the Inner Harbor. Veterans for Peace also participated in this event. A fuller version (a 38 minutes video) of the ceremony and the comments by the participants can be found on Google,at: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3099799392449623899&hl=en

  • When I was inducted into the Army in 1970 as a draftee, i took an oath to protect this country from enemies both foreign and domestic. John McBush is the enemy, sadly. He should know better. The founding fathers recognized threats from within. Therefore the need for the bill of rights. What better way to protect this country from domestic enemies than to speak out. John McCain = more dead Americans. And you can vote for more dead Americans if you wish.

  • Try to comprehend.Congress authorized military force.Nothing unconstitutional about the war.Criticizing our policies while at war undermine our mission & morale.Carping about the war is not patriotic, but pathetic, esp a soldier. She signed up,& now is whining. There's guys missing limbs that support our mission & have gone back with an artificial limb.Get her a job at MoveOn,Code Pink,or Obama's new administration where she'll feel at home.Or get her a subscription to Rolling Stone communist mag.

  • A patriot defends the Constitution.

  • Thanks for your service, but wars are expensive and while one dead American is too many, 4000k isn't a bad casualty count all things considered. I did two hitches in the Marines myself, so I'm not speaking out of turn. We join the military to fight and die. The GI Bill is a reward for service, not the point of it.

  • fuck that bitch, go back you whore

  • A patriot ZEALOUSLY supports their country's authority. She was a VOLUNTEER. She is insulting our troops telling them they're fighting for nothing. Malcontents undermine morale, and encourage our enemies. The anti-war babies will consider her a hero, but she lacks strength of conviction. There have been battles with 4,00 men lost in ONE DAY. We've lost 4,000 in 7 years, and she's ready to quit. Thank God that most of our soldiers aren't like this. J.Riley, Vietnam Veteran

  • He said in the capacity of having a presence in Iraq just like we do in Germany and Japan (among other countries). And the fact that we don't see anything on the news about the progress in Iraq? It isn't "interesting" and the media only reports what they want to report. What was this girls MOS in the Army by the way?

  • Your right Rose, thank you for your service

We support the troops bring them home from this illegal corporate war now.

  • ok, the amount of facts that are wrong here are unbelievable. how could you care about iraq and be against john mccain's troop surge?
