2007 Woodbine Turf Races - 2nd Place!

Here it is! My run in the 2007 Woodbine Turf Race which helped raise funds for the United Way. I ran the 1.5 mile (2.4 km) Distance Race thats run on our E.P. Taylor Turf racetrack - the same track that runs many of Canada's top horse racing events like the Queen's Plate.

We actually do start from the same starting gate like the horses and the races are announced by our track announcer, Dan Loiselle. The event was also broadcast live on our HPItv cable channels.

My strategy to run and pace myself with Nick, the winner, seemed to pay off well! Though I'm not at his level - yet - I placed 2nd with a final time of approx. 12min 16sec & a pace of 4min 51sec/km (I used my iPod Nike+ to time it) - my best time & pace yet - and its worth to note the winner is our company president who is also a 3 time marathon runner. With some more training and running endurance, who knows how well I'll do next time!
