@bagzie In the studio footage from 1968, it was a stock Fender P-bass through some kind of UK tube amp. The pick adds to the woody tone.

Keith Richards actually played the bass when this was recorded for the beggars banquet album. Anyone know what kind of bass he was playing for that recording?....love it's earthy, clunky sound!
