Motorola Droid sample video

Ive been using the Motorola Droid for a week now, and while the device is quite impressive overall, the camera is a mess

But wait, you protest, those shots look fine. Sure, the Droid can take pretty decent pictures (slide show). But Im a camera buff, and do you know how much effort I put into these?

It usually takes 3 to 5 attempts for the auto-focus to actually work, the camera must often be tricked into using the right exposure, color balance is all over the map, and dont even get me started about low-light performance that small sensor is noisy!

The Motorola ZN5 (ZINE) camera is truly remarkable, so I hope Motorola can fix most of these problems in a future update.

When it comes to stills, the Droid camera is no match for the Nokia N900 or N97. Andy Ihnatko claims that the iPhone 3GS beats the Droid, but based on my time using both phones, I dont think he put much effort into his pictures :)

I agree that normobs will get better results with the iPhone 3GS, but photographers will do better with the Droid, especially once Motorola tweaks the firmware.

The Droid supports video recording with a resolution of 720×480 pixels at 24 fps, matching the excellent Nokia N900 and Samsung Memoir. Theres no initial auto-focus, however.

shut the fuck up you apple fanboy, the camera on an iphone 3gs doesn't compair to a droid. I have the droid, someone I work with has the iphone gs and we compared them. Why don't you go post your fanboy comments elsewhere, and shove your iphone up your ass while you're at it.

@laurensj89 wowww.....i don't care either. i did not get it because it had the best widgets or camera. and i did get the one that i WANTED and i dont give a fuck about what people in the "Netherlands"?? do. @dancediva961 LOL im sorry, I don't own an Iphone nor do I care about an Iphone or a Droid. I just don't get all the arguing about which product is better. Why can't ppl let other ppl be happy with what they have. I have a Nokia N900, maybe its better then a Droid maybe not. You just pick the phone thats most useful for you not one with the best camera and the most 'widgets' -wtf-. We in The Netherlands don't care a fck about widget, still everybody is happy and going on strong.

@laurensj89 Well I'll Believe That for myself when a professional him or her self tell me. But until then,droid is the top smart phone. How could they copy movies from internet if you recorded it, it didn't go on the internet first? i don't understand.The iphone battery power and on screen qwerty may be better but that doesn't mean much. i prove my statements by having people watch these droid videos. and iphone cant run widgets too good because they have like 0 home screens. droid has 5

@dancediva961 Its an optical illusion, the Andriod just copies movies from the internet to you telephone and make it looks like you recorded yourself. My uncle told me. And he knows, oh yeah. A friend of a friend of him who is the head of Motorola told him that an employee explained that to him. However the employee seems to be disappeared after this strange occurrence and it is told that he works for Apple because he was rather a camera engineer than a steal-videos-from-the-internet engineer.

@laurensj89 oh and another thing it does come with wi fi but it can work with out it either. and at least you don't have a limit on your internet like on the iphone 3gs. for the droid you kan have it for 30 dollars a month. and if it does go up, that doesn't mean you cannot use the inernet. but the phone is not a computer so i don't use the internet like that

@laurensj89 So Can Yours! It Doesn't matter where the phone was made! How does that change what it does. Also The Droid (not android because android is a TYPE of phone not the name of it,just like a flip phone is a TYPE) does have a camera because this is a video TESTING the camera. And the Droid Can work without Wi-fi. Anybody can google it for themselves to see if my info is wrong or right. Iphone 3G is gone. and If Apple is so brilliant, Why can't they make phones that don't have recalls?

@dancediva961 Your information source can be marked as unreliable as the Android only got 100 Apps and the Iphone got 1,000,000 Apps. And you can run widgets on the screen, which the Android obviously can't. It also has a camera and wifi, which the android doesn't have. The Android is also made in North-Korea by captured Christians and Muslims, where the Iphone is made here in the USA, 'home of the free'.

@laurensj89 no. it's not. i cannot understand why you would compare it to that. iphone 3G was what,three years ago? The Droid Is Better. I Have one. You Cannot run widgets on the screen and droid has 50,000 aps and iphone only has 20,000. So much for the Fail Of A SLogan "There's an app for that"
