@AidanLunn I was in London in 1988 and regularly saw the prolonged hold of the Thames ident over the start of Granada programmes. I always imagined it was just a transitional thing with pre-88 recordings - and that the titles of World In Action, Corrie etc had not yet been re-created with new visuals to fill in the first couple of seconds where the ident still used to appear.
@AidanLunn Sorry to reply quite so late, but I imagine that would have been a networking nightmare to _intentionally_ carry on for 20 months! Instead of a clean (silent, black) feed right up to the start of the programme's theme tune, the network receives a feed with an inaccurate clock (because it would have counted down to the ident they didn't want to show) and a soundtrack and graphics they had to cut out with split-second timing right before the programme began. All to keep YTV happy?!!!
The YTV logo was never a chevron, it was a stylised letter 'Y' for Yorkshire. With the early jingle for the early and late 1990s idents taken from 'On Ilkla Moor baht hat'.

To JASpiring, We'll agree to disagree.

@geography27 It is a chevron, but it's arched to resemble a letter Y. Anyway, it's just a nickname, like G-arrow for Granada's logo.

To be fairly honest, the Chevron owns the telly on a stick. I will be honest, but UTV is probably my least favorite ITV station.

It was indeed the end of the YTV ident. And the start of Emmerdale.

I still prefer the old telly on a stick, I wish we had something like that in the Yorkshire TV region instead of the boring old chevron.
