Brandon Zhou - Young Chopin Winner

The Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa church sponsors an annual Frederic Chopin Piano Competition each September at its location, 250 Maxwell Road, Latham, NY. The event, open to pianists from age 6 through 19, will be judged by a panel of accomplished musicians, and is arranged in three divisions.

•For the Young Chopin level (ages 6-11), the winner will receive a $100 US Savings Bond.
•The top prize for the Apprentice level (ages 12-14) is a $500 Bond.
•The Master level (ages 15-19) winner being awarded a $1,000 Bond.

Runners-up receive a $50 bond. Contestants will perform one piece composed by Chopin; students at the Apprentice and Master levels must select from an approved list.

Participants compete on a 9-foot Yamaha Grand Piano, donated by Artist Pianos in Latham. Dr. John A. Cetnarowski generously underwrites the awards for the winners and runners-up.

Registration is limited to the first 10 applicants in each category; previous winners are ineligible to enter in the same category. Winners and runners-up perform at a special public concert in September. The competition, concert, and awards ceremony are held at the Blessed Virgin Mary of Czestochowa Church, 250 Maxwell Road, Latham. The registration fee is $30 and the deadline for registration is in mid-August. Registration details for the 2010 Chopin Piano Competition will be released in early January.
