A quick and dirty video on configuring iSCSI and NFS with vSphere and Iomega devices running EMC lifeline. If you're not an EMCer, ignore the first part (the core code is developed and tested as a VM appliance), the management/configuration of the iSCSI and NFS datastores is the same as a physical Iomega ix2/ix4 unit.

  • @schnutz122 Hi. I have the same problem with my ix4 with the same firmware. It will last several days but as soon as you start copying data to and from the device it will freeze after 15mins or so. Did replacing the unit work for you?

  • Nice video. Great tutorial. For anyone considering running the ix2 or ix4 series in a production environment, DO NOT DO IT. The Iomega software (by their own admission) is very buggy through firmware version 2.1.25.229. In my case, the unit freezes & stops responding from 1m-15m after boot. Sure, the data is still there (no drive errors) and Iomega knows it's their problem. They'll send a replacement unit, but you'll be SOL when it comes to getting your latest data back.

  • is that IOMEGA iSCSI storage appliance (VM) officially available for download?

I would like to evaluate it before I buy the real iSCSI/NFS box.
