Bhopal: As many as 107 homes in Minal Residency, JK Road, have been constructed illegally on government-owned land, a report drafted by the district administration has revealed.
Following the demarcation team's submission of a list of homes standing on government land to the collector, the district administration is now probing how these structures received a permit from the city corporation and how their layout was shown the green signal by the town and country department.
After demolishing a portion of the Minal Mall and freeing 141 acres of encroached government land from its builder, the district administration began the demarcation of the entire area near the mall.
The probe revealed that 107 homes in Old Minal and New Minal had been raised on government land.
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Additional Collector Deepal Saxena confirmed that homes built on government land had been identified.
Saxena also said it would be investigated how these building received the go-ahead from the city corporation and the town and country planning department, adding that no decision had yet been taken to demolish these homes.
Earlier in the month, illegally raised sections of the six-storied Minal Mall were brought down using dynamite and JCB machines.
The demolition of a portion of the Minal Mall, the largest-ever anti-encroachment drive in Bhopal to free government land, began following the High Court's order.
According to a report prepared by the district administration, Minal Mall builder Raj Homes had encroached 108.47 acre of the 141.22 acre land owned by the Industries Department.
Raj Homes is said to have built residential apartments, shopping mall, food zone and film city on the encroached land.
