I remember I sang this song when I was going to an all black church with my godmother. I'm white, and I was treated horribly because of it. I sang this song the last day I was there. There wasn't a dry eye in that church. I've been the outcast, everywhere. Needless to say, I'm an atheist now, but this song still gets to me every time.

I dont have a religion. But i beleive in God. Not man. This song makes me remeber how many times i was made fun of when i was younger because i was different. I finally found friends who like me for me. One of them doesnt care what relgion i am, even though shes Christian. I can count on her, even though my mother is Wiccan and always has been. The other in this song, not Esmeralda, remind me of my mothers parents, who shunned her because she was herself. God help the outcasts, no matter who.

I can relate to this song as well. I had been treated like an outcast since 5th grade. I m in college right now and I still feel the same way. I sometimes want to ask these popular people "Were you once an outcast, too?"
