They DO animate a lot of sci-fi, but really they've only done Heroic Age, Gundam Seed -> Destiny/etc, Fafner, Linebarrels, and if you count Infinite Ryvius, for mecha animes...

the softer touch drawings of anime that we have today arent as good in my opinion
