a small demo of the FT857d radio in use. myself in QSO with G0OMH 01.03.2008. fiddling with the screen color & adjusting the RF level. the AGC is set at FAST. the DSP filter is on & the SSB filter is set to the factory Ceramic .. although ive fitted the Collins SSB filter it was not in use.
the audio was direct to dvd .. no mics.
the video was shot using our Hitachi MV750E dvd camcorder. u can compare the radios.

  • by the way .. ive just bought a VHF-atu to improve the SWR. it works a treat. if anyone has similar problems .. id recomend one of these. the 857D is still a favorite here. good all round rig.

  • I thought I had a pirate for a second on reading the description of the video! Nice audio. 73 - Rob G0MOH / VK2GOM.

  • ha ha .. it took me a while to -GET- the call as well. thats confusing!

Theres also a mis-print in the google search here in the uk. if u type G0RRL (me) .. the result is G0RRL the Isle of man !! (it aint me guv! .. honest)

QTH here is S.London uk. has been for 20years

  • what is that?

  • its Ham radio. the frequency is 3.685Mhz .. which is on the 80Meter ham-band shortwave.

  • Nice audio. Like the cut as well. Thought Pete's over was a lot shorter than normal lol

  • good video I too have just brought a YAESU FT857D there great to use arn't they I got mine last wednesday morning and have had loads of fun with it on 2meters SSB and the 40meters there a fantastic reciver but I wish they would put some more PMR bands in with it because I find there isn't very mutch to lisen too PMR wise all you get is air-band and ship to shore radio and a little bit after the 70centermeters but for the price you pay fpr them you'd think they would throw a few more bands in.

  • My bet is it's the standard hand microphone that comes with it. I know for a fact that my 857d sounds quite like that, very loud and very clear set at position #2 on the back of the microphone and running 50% gain and 50% compression on the menu settings for SSB. The microphone was likely engineered to compliment the rig and they did a good job of it too.

  • Definitely go with the 857d..... the 100d WAS a fantastic rig and IMHO superior in performance to the 857d. It was truly a miracle in a little package. The short coming of the 100d is finals are not available, once it's done, it goes from being a transceiver to a receiver forever. The 857d is close..... very close..... is as cheap as the air that we breath and is a current production rig still supported by Yaesu. Hope this helps and very 73 de Tom

  • which is best before i buy a ft-100d, thanks

  • What the michrophone used for the audio being heard ?? very punchy !!

  • I love my FT-857D almost as much as I did my FT-100D. I suppose I will have to do some videos of my mobile set up and post them one of these days soon. Thanks for sharing es 73 de Tom.
