Abalone Diving Off Caspar June 2011.wmv

Mother nature threw me a curve while abalone diving from my kayak on the Mendocino coast in California. The fog caught me while I was on the outside, and to make things worse the wind and swell moved in to join the party. I love a good challenge from time to time.

Great adventure! What kind of sit-on-top kayak is that? I have a couple traditional sea kayaks but I'm looking for a sit-on-top that I could take on some multi-day adventures.

Hi Buck,

The Kayak I was using for this trip was a Scuper Pro TW made by Ocean Kayak. They don't make this model any more, but I find them used on craigslist especially out of San Diego for some reason.  I have three kayaks and this is my go to yak when I set out on longer trips or wave ride.

Thanks Matt, this vid doesn't have the "abalone diving" action that most would expect from the title, but I'll try again another day. I probably won't find the trophy's that you're accustomed to seeing though. Thanks for your comment,
