This is the motivation chapter of a 55 minute documentary on rowing coach Mike Spracklen. The complete video has background on how Spracklen began his rowing and coaching career as well as chapters on bladework, the human bodies ability to adapt, technique (which includes special behind the scenes video of Mike coaching Silken Laumann in 1990), small boat training, training together in a group, training rates, weights and ergs and a final chapter on MIkes thoughts on successes and failure.

    It is so sad hearing about all of these famous athletes like hockey players and baseball players that have 10 million dollar contracts and they are still wanting more. Not to put them down or anything, but it makes me wonder if they are in the sport for the passion or for the glory. Rowers don't get paid anything, they all do it because they love it. I am glad that there is funding for us, but other than that, not a penny. It should never be about the money, but the satisfaction you get.

    Last I checked, there weren't teams, owners, stadiums, and broadcasters making billions off the effort of rowers. If there's money in a sport, I have no problems with much of it going to those who actually participate in it. Rowing I'll do for the love of it, but nobody's making a buck off my stroke.
