  • R.I.P. Jane Jarvis....sure beats the Hell out of the nonsense that blares from the PA now.

  • I certainly agree with that. Give me Jane's music prerecorded over the crap they play these days. At least her version of Meet the Mets before they take the field - please!

  • Organs should be brought back at all the ballparks. There's a place for rock n'roll, but the game should celebrate its link with the past.

There were many ballparks where the organist would have a song for every ball player, both home and road.

In 1979,as Joel Youngblood stepped up to the plate at Three Rivers Stadium, the organist played the theme from Rollerball. After a while,I reasoned that the one of the movie themes was to get rid of the old and get some youngblood.

    RIP,Jane.

  • Just heard that Jane died. A part of my youth dies with her. I remember sitting out at Shea and listening to her on the Thomas organ. Ah, Bob Murphy, Lindsey Nelson and now Jane Jarvis......Where have they gone Joe D...

  • We Want Jane's Organ Music On Youtube!

  • they should have used audio clips w/still pix and spotlights on the field where important plays happened from '69, '73, '86 and '00.

this ceremony ended with a thud, especially after the way the game ended.

    typical mess, i mean mets...

  • organists like jane jarvis and eddie layton, as well, were incredibly talented musicians, who "cued" the action of the entire game on their own, while watching it through a window or on a small tv monitor. today, it's done by a staff of technicians who work from a script that is followed down to the second. the game "accompaniment" no longer has any personality. it's a shame.

  • I can remember Jane would play an Irish jig type of tune whenever Tug McGraw would enter the game. She was great!

  • Great memories We used to walk from Flushing to Roosvelt Ave. to get to the park

  • Does anybody know of the short ditty Jane played circa 1969..not sure what the heck it was, but it was catch as heck (A Yankee fan who believes the Mets have great songs!)

  • @Keyshawnsucks EXACTLY! I am old enough to remember a time when you went to a game in the early 1970s where you could talk and hear the organ. Fenway Park I believe still plays their oragn a lot. The stuff that comes out of the PA now sucks! Yep....

  • Although I like the other two versions of "Meet the Mets", Jane's version eclipses the other two. As we move on into baseball 2010, I hope to hear Jane's version of "Meet the Mets" at Citi!
