That Syria church is a Gnostic church!
-
Icons were not used on altars nor in worship. They were used on tombs, and those were typological images.
-
That Jesus icon was made by the Emperors in the 3rd century, its a forgery. Read Irenaeus. Icon worship and veneration is Marcellina Gnostic nonsense.
-
Yea, the 6th century Christians used icons

Doh! In my first comment I meant to type 'cruelties and anathemas hurled at Christians who in good conscience COULDN'T revere icons'. I hear there's an anathema against EVEN DOUBTING THE VALIDITY OF ICONS! Oh boy...And I'm not saying the iconoclasts were any better either.
-
Saint Irene had her son's eyes gouged out! Love your enemies ,eh? Is THIS what Christ came down to earth to create?
-
Yeah yeah. I DON'T say orthodox are idolaters as some Protestants offensively do, but just look at the cruelties and anathemas hurled at Christians who in good conscience revere icons (and yeah, the iconoclasts could've done with a bit of tolerance was well!) Thanks for the historical info, though (not sure about Eusebius and his legends as trustworthy history myself, but hey-ho! We'll disagree graciously, unlike Christians in the past!)

أيها الرب يسوع المسيح ابن الله, إرحمني أنا الخاطئ
your right about the picture of someone you loved that passed away, but Jesus is not dead, but risen and coming back. We walk by faith not sight.

@HairyBeardedFur 1. Right, but he is also in heaven and not here currently in physical form. 2. The reference was particularly in regards to the saints. 3. Of course, that is a distortion of the intended meaning of that verse to use it in this context.
