I agree, Matt. It's a lovely song, but it's got nothing to do with the real Kingston Trio. From now on I'll call myself Frank Sinatra.

The original tro recorded Tijuana Jail in 1950
Actually it was Ensenada not Tijuana.
This song was written for some of my navy buddies fromUSS Lexington CVA 16... Our divison officer PM Moody, went down and bailed them out,,, 1959.

Oddly enough, The Kingston Trio got me to settle on bluegrass music. Only recently in the past 8 years or so. In fact, on my radio show, I'll throw in a Kingston Trio number every now and then. Yep, they were truely inspiring. BTW I'm only 50 so don't think I'm frickin over the hill yet.

The new guys aren't the old guys.
How do you take a group from 1958 with three completely different guys and somehow turn it into a group of new, slightly younger guys who bear no relation to the original guys in the year 2006???? Long live Dave Guard, Bob Shane, Nick Renyolds, and John Stewart.

Well, you must realize that the group has weathered several changes over the past 50 years. Also, the Guard and NBJ are my favorites, George Grove, Bill Zorn, and Rick D., are all pros and excellent muscians. Bob Shane is the expert at keeping it all together and this last trio is excellent. Go to one of their concerts and I am sure you will agree. We all have our favorites, but the KT is a national treasure beyond definition.
