CA-Dream Act: Latest Updates (07/11/11) LATEST UPDATES

LATEST UPDATE 07/11/11:

The CA-Dream Act will be voted on in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, July 11, 2011.
Today, Monday, July 11, 2011:
-AB 130 has advanced onto the Senate Floor with a 5-2 vote in favor and is expected to be voted on as early as next week. If it happens to make it past the Senate floor, it will proceed to Governor Brown's desk.
-AB 131 is currently in suspense. The last day to pull any bill out of suspense is August 26th.

CURRENT GOAL:
-Pull AB 131 out of suspense, before August 26th. Ideally, it would be great if this were accomplished before AB 130 makes it on the governor's desk in order to increase the likelihood of BOTH bills being signed and becoming law.
-Continue to express urgency for AB 130 so that it may make it past the Senate Floor and reach the governor, but let's keep in mind that AB 131 holds more weight because it provides more aid.
-We need to make sure that BOTH AB 130 AND AB 131 make it to Governor Brown's desk and that he signs BOTH into law.

1. Call the following Senate Appropriations members who voted YES on AB 130 and thank them for their support:

-Hello my name is ________________, and I want to thank Senator _______________ (your CA State Senator) for standing up for equal opportunity and access to education by voting YES on AB 130 within the Senate Appropriations hearing. I ask that they continue to insist that AB 131 be taken out of suspense to ensure that BOTH AB 130 AND AB 131 reach the Senate Floor and ultimately the Governor's desk. Thank you.
