Meddy Gerville is a young and very talented pianist whose music is a unique fusion between jazz and maloya (the traditional music from his home country Reunion Island) He also sings in his mother language which is creole as well as French and English. Here is an extract of the recent concert he did in Cape Verde during the Kriol Jazz Festival with Michel Alibo on bass, Pierre François Dufour on drums, Jérôme Calciné on percussions, Jim Célestin on saxophones and Christopher Mc Donald acting as the sound engineer. Enjoy his Maloya Jazz or as Meddy usually calls it: Jazz'Oya... :-)
I LOVE Meddy Gerville's music. For those of you who haven't obtained his latest album, "Fo Kromn La Vi," I HIGHLY recommend it. It's one of the best albums I've heard in many years. Wish he'd tour the States more frequently.
