@Varese52 I think it's even more frightening than that. Exactly, it is how seven sins concept can be used (instead of preaching something one side and doing something else on the other) by "petit-bourgeois" class to justify self destruction for derisory goal.
Sorry, don't want to teach anything, but I tought the same as you, and, as I was translating it, I figured out it was even more awful, traumatic and frightening than the frist interpretation.

Not exactly schizophrenic. She is "of two minds". This is a satire about the petit bourgeois, who preach one thing, yet do the expedient "evil" things when it is necessary to get ahead. In short, it's political-philosophical instead of psychological.

I didn't realize it with Nora Kimball and Teresa Stratas that Anna is probably schizophrenic.... Even when the family speaks about Anna, there is only one mentioned. This is Elise Ross?

Can you tell me any more about this film version? I have the Sellars-Stratas-Nagano version and love Stratas's performance in it, but I cannot get enough of this show!
